Volvo/Nissan deal in China leaves Biglorryblog very confused...

It's getting hard to keep track as to exactly who's doing what in China as everyone who's anyone is falling over themselves to do business there. Consequently, Biglorryblog is rather confused by the news that Dongfeng Motor Group Company Limited (DFG), Nissan Motor and AB Volvo are now 'deepening discussions' on a possible AB Volvo investment in the heavy and medium-duty commercial vehicle business currently included in the Chinese joint venture between DFG and Nissan Motor – Dongfeng Motor Co, Ltd (DFL).

“We will now initiate more in-depth discussions about our possible future co-operation,” state Xu Ping, Board Chairman of DFG and Jorma Halonen, Executive Vice President and Deputy CEO of AB Volvo. Now I thought Donfeng was already tied up with someone else other than Volvo/Nissan on light commercials...or was it on heavy trucks? Or have I got it wrong...? It's all very confusing. So can any Biglorryblog readers help me out?

Apparently DFG intends to establish more competitive alliances with Nissan and AB Volvo respectively, in order for all parties to achieve the best development in their specialised field and to get the ball rolling DFG, Nissan Motor, DFL and AB Volvo has signed a non-binding framework agreement with the intention of AB Volvo to invest in the heavy and medium-duty commercial vehicle and engine business and future engine business, while Nissan Motor remains committed to the longterm cooperation with DFG regarding passenger vehicles and the light commercial business.

Any future definitive agreement regarding such a transaction will be subject to approval by Chinese authorities. Got that? Meanwhile here's some pictures of Chinese trucks that use the old Volvo FL 'Wendyhouse' cab....

What are they called and who makes them? Search me I've forgotten (really my memory on a Sunday is appalling--I blame the Penfolds red) but it starts with an H...anyone?
