Biglorryblog likes a big hitter!
Celtic Recycling ready for heavy haulage with its Andover/Goldhofer low-loader.
You can't fail to get Biglorryblog's attention if you're offering me a Swedish heavy hitter with a big machine on the back. And that's why BLB takes great pleasure in bringing you news that Bridgend-based Celtic Recycling, specialists in the recovery and recycling of 'end-of-life' heavy electrical equipment, has taken delivery of its first low-loader from Andover Trailers. And what a beast too.
The Andhofer DFHNCLS90 tri-axle dropwell, power-steered, detachable-neck, low-loader (got all that?) is a new addition to Celtic Recycling’s fleet, and is a child of Andover's joint venture with German specialist trailer maker Goldhofer, incorporating the latter's advanced steering technology in an Andover specification frame.
The new trailer purchase follows Celtic Recycling's recent expansion, enabling it to haul loads weighing up to 70 tonnes without having to contract the job to a third party. Valued at nearly £120,000, the state-of-the-art trailer operates with this Scania 6x4 Topline double-drive tractor and will be used on projects with the National Grid and other regional electrical companies. It will operate across the country, transporting the company’s 40-tonne capacity telescopic crawler crane, as well as decommissioned transformers and other bits of old equipment ready for recycling.
Keith James, boss of Celtic Recycling, tells Biglorryblog: "This new trailer affords us greater flexibility to support our customers and joins a fleet of specialist commercial vehicles ranging from hooklifts with 53 tonne/metre cranes to smaller 7.5 tonners designed for the collection of hazardous waste materials. We awarded Andover Trailers the contract to build the low loader based on its ability to offer us a tailor-made solution, combined with its reputation for manufacturing some of the strongest trailers in the heavy haulage sector.” And you can't say fairer than that.
Meanwhile, the 2.75m wide trailer has an 8m deck with heavy-duty side extensions for sleepers, plus a specialist 45-tonne detachable neck to work with the single-axle jeep dolly. The smart blue low-loader also features BPW power-steered axles with remote control steering, to ensure it can safely enter areas with restricted access, together with Goldhofer hydraulic suspension with raise/lower control. Last but not least, to help Celtic load the transformers on skids the trailer is fitted with a 20mm steel floor which is level with the outer box beams. Mmmmmm...nice.
