LNL 465E: The VERY first Volvo truck in Britain
The Brochure King has a real 'scoop' for Biglorryblog!
Further to recent postings on 'Britain's first Volvo truck' The Brochure King Rich Stanier e-mails me with a real bombshell! ! "I thought I would contribute to the recent F86 frenzy with this nice shot of LNL 465E at work for Reinforcing Bars (Blaydon) Ltd. However, whilst this truck was the first sold by Mckelvie/Ailsa Trucks it is worth noting that an earlier Volvo had the distinction of serving a British operator." What? Well keep reading to find out this shock horror development!
And here it is!, however, Rich adds: "608 GUL was a left-hand-drive L.4571 loaned by Volvo to Cubitt Town transport in London for operational testing in 1964. (Information courtesy of 'A Source Book of Commercial Vehicles' by the Olysager Organisation, 1972) Cheers, Rich." And where is 608GUL now wonders Biglorrryblog...?!
