LRUC - RHA/FTA Joint Statement

Document Actions
Following on from the abrupt cancellation of the Government's Lorry Road user Charge programme, the National Chairman and Chief Executive of the Road Haulage Association and the President and Chief Executive of the Freight Transport Association, met together in Glasgow to consider a joint industry-wide strategy in response.

The meeting confirmed the feeling of deep disappointment that the government had abandoned the LRUC without proposing an alternative scheme to tackle the serious issue of high fuel taxation coupled with the unfair competition of foreign hauliers operating within the UK.

The meeting considered it essential that the industry should respond with one united voice and then considered a strategy for developing this consensus. A further statement will be made shortly outlining what is proposed.
