TIP Bags Tarmac Trupak
In its first ever long-term deal with GE’s TIP Trailer Services, Doncaster based aggregates supplier Tarmac Trupak has replaced its entire 26 strong trailer fleet as part of a new comprehensive five year contract hire agreement.
The five-year deal uses the popular TIP Equipment Funding (TEF) service, part of TIP’s FleetOptions range of finance products, and the agreement between the two companies also includes full FleetCare trailer maintenance cover for all 26 trailers over the contract period.
Tarmac Trupak operates a UK distribution fleet consisting of 21 tractor units and 26 curtainsided trailers delivering bagged aggregates to retailers, builders merchants and independents. This latest deal with TIP, the first such deal between the two companies, involved the specification of bespoke curtainsided trailers for Tarmac Trupak’s distribution operation where payload was a significant factor determining the final trailer specification.
"Our distribution operation requires us to ensure the maximum payload possible as we distribute bulky and heavy products. By identifying the trailer specification with weight saving features, we have been able to achieve a maximum payload of 29.2 tonnes on these new trailers from TIP," said Steve White, Logistics and Distribution Manager, Tarmac Trupak.
All 26 of the new SDC curtainsided trailers from TIP have been built to a bespoke specification where weight saving ideas, such as replacing the rear barn doors with sliding curtains, have been incorporated. The trailers also feature a lifting axle to help improve fuel consumption, particularly when returning from delivery.
23 of the trailers are based at the main Tarmac Trupak distribution centre in Doncaster, with the remaining three trailers located at alternative depots in the UK.
Tarmac Trupak is the UK’s leading supplier of pre packed building and decorative aggregates, supplying a comprehensive range of quality products in varied packaging sizes to both trade and retail stores. According to Steve White, "In what can be described as our first major trailer acquisition programme with TIP, we have been impressed by their approach to our business requirements. The two companies worked closely together to identify the correct trailer specification matched with an attractive finance package that is supported by full trailer maintenance cover on a 24/7 basis."
