Freight On Line Benchmarking Pilot Goes Live
The Department for Transport’s On Line Benchmarking pilot programme went live yesterday (Monday 4th August) and will run until March 2009.
The pilot, which is initially designed for vehicles over 7.5t GVW within the Primary Distribution and Aggregate sectors, is set to allow operators to compare their performance externally, instantly and anonymously with that of similar operators, including MPG and Safety Key Performance Indicators.

- Company Contact Details
- Transport Sector (Primary Distribution, Aggregates)
- Vehicle registration number
- Geographical location (i.e. North West, South West, London etc)
- Vehicle type (rigid, artic, drawbar)
- GVW as per vehicle excise duty category
- Average Gross Vehicle Weight as operated e.g. 42t for a max 44t licensed vehicle
- Body / Trailer type (box, curtain-sided, tipper)
- Main operational type of vehicle (urban, dual carriageway, motorway, off road)
- Geographical spread as operated (local, regional, national, international)
- Fuel type (diesel, electric, LPG, CNG)
- Number of axles (total vehicle configuration)
- Details on fuel efficiency interventions currently used per vehicle
- The vehicle specific data can be automatically downloaded into the system using the vehicle detail entry template as included in the system.
- Mileage travelled as per odometer reading
- Fuel consumption in litres
- Number of incidents (where damage to vehicle, property or people)
- Others relating to vehicle fill, time and deliveries
- Again, the data entry requirements can be automatically downloaded into the system using the
