Michelin A2 Energy Tyres Challenge Hauliers To Think Again

Document Actions
On 25 and 26 September 2006 Michelin Truck Tyres launched a unique test to demonstrate the impact tyres can make on fuel consumption for commercial vehicles.

Two trucks with similar characteristics left Clermont-Ferrand together for the journey to the IAA Exhibition at Hanover. They followed exactly the same route, at the same speed and carried the same load.

Only one detail differentiated the trucks: one of them was fitted with Michelin A 2 Energy tyres and the other with standard Michelin E 2+ tyres.

Upon arrival in Hanover, results from the test confirmed the promises made by Michelin. The truck fitted with Michelin A2 Energy tyres burned 28.89 litres less fuel over the 1250 kms a saving of 2.31 litres per 100kms.

To win €31,000 worth of fuel, or the equivalent of the average amount of fuel used by a 40-tonne truck in a year, participants had to correctly guess how many litres of fuel, to the nearest centilitre, could be saved by using Michelin A2 Energy truck tyres on the route from Clermont-Ferrand to Hanover.

The Truck Challenge was open to any employee of a transport company in any of the 15 participating European countries.

By significantly lowering rolling resistance, Michelin's A2 Energy tyres save the average of one litre of fuel every 100 kilometres, the equivalent of two free tyres over the life of the tyre.

The A2 Energy delivers this lower rolling resistance while maintaining equivalent levels of safety, grip and mileage performance.

The Michelin A2 Energy tyre responds to the very strong demands from all types of transport companies, who are concerned about the sharp increase in fuel prices. It has also been approved by the leading truck manufacturers, who offer it as original equipment.

Upon arrival in Hanover, results from the test confirmed the promises made by Michelin: 28.69 litres of fuel saved over 1,250 km, i.e. 2.29 litres for 100 km.
