Grafter's Key Environmental Role
When the traditional working estate of Champfleurie in Linlithgow, Scotland recently won the West Lothian Environmental Award, staff at this historic estate acknowledged the vital role played by the company's Isuzu Grafter 3.5 tonne rigid in demonstrating how the Estate had sustained its environmental improvement.
Champfleurie Estate received this regional environmental award at a reception at Houston House, Uphall, in recognition of their programme of turning waste timber into firewood. The judges were impressed by the Estates efforts to reduce the environmental impact of coal, gas and oil by encouraging consumers to turn to burning wood as a means of heating their homes.
The programme, first established by the Estate in 2003, now converts in excess of 3500 tonnes of waste wood into a sustainable customer service. By preventing this vast annual quantity of waste timber from being sent to landfill and producing a number of products including wood fuel logs and woodchips as well as heating Champfleurie House, Champfleurie Estate was recognised as having made a considerable contribution towards the reduction in carbon emissions.
The bagged firewood from the estate is distributed to customers using an Isuzu Grafter 3.5 tonne rigid, which has a Palfinger rear mounted crane to facilitate the unloading of the firewood at customer properties.
According to Ricky Kerr from Champfleurie Estates, “In the 18 months we have had the Isuzu, it has proved to be a superb performer and it is now vital to the success of our bagged firewood operation. We chose it because it gives us the facility to position the vehicle on customer driveways for unloading by crane directly into customers’ garages. It can literally go wherever a car can go and so causes no disruption or traffic impediment when delivering and allows us a high level of convenience on site.”
With a capacity to hold four 1 cu metre bags of firewood, the Isuzu covers customer deliveries normally within a 25 mile radius of the 15th century estate.
“To win the West Lothian Environmental Award was a significant achievement for the team here at Champfleurie Estate, however we do also recognize the role played by our Isuzu Grafter distribution truck within the whole operation. Its reliability and practical performance is backed up by a superb Aftersales service from our local Isuzu dealer AM Philip - we cannot praise them enough for their support,” added Ricky Kerr.
