Don-Bur Defies The Recession And Expands

Document Actions
The recession, together with the ever-increasing fuel prices, has devastated the transport industry. Those savvy enough however, have looked to invest in bespoke, more operationally efficient equipment to drive profit back into a healthy black.
Don-Bur has benefitted significantly from this shift in buying patterns.  Previously, they were known for “niche” product manufacture, but now, “niche” products are becoming a necessity to many operators wishing to stave off the hungry competition.

Don-Bur has just invested £1 million on two additional workshops, based at their head office in Stoke-on-Trent.  The main development started in February this year and has been built primarily to cater for the increased assembly production of Teardrops (trailers and rigid bodywork).  The impressive ten metre high building consists 1,500m2 (16,150 square feet) of floor space with nine, five metre high bay doors and six, 2 tonne travelling cranes.

The secondary development supports the first in the form of covered storage area (1000m2); specifically for weather sensitive items such as flooring and shutter componentry.

David Burton, Managing Director at Don-Bur says “We have been at full capacity for over 12 months now and despite 24hr shifts, product lead times were consistently growing.  Initially, plans were held off in case the surge in demand was temporary, but the trend showed no signs of slowing and we had to increase manufacturing capacity.”

The recent investment from Don-Bur follows a steady series of expansion initiatives, including a £500,000 tail-lift fitting shop built in 2008 and £200,000 spent on the latest 3D engineering systems.

David Burton adds “Operators now demand more cube, better fill ratios, faster loading/unloading and more aerodynamic solutions; solutions we excel at providing.”
